Mallika Lakshman, MHC-LP
About Mallika
Mallika Lakshman understands what it’s like to have a foot in many worlds, but belong wholly to none. As a queer nonbinary South Asian immigrant, they have had to learn how to navigate various spaces while being their whole and complex self, and possess a sensitivity to challenges around being seen and understood.
If you are looking for a partner in healing, someone to work with you to uncover your motivations and help you reach your goals, then Mallika may be the right practitioner for you. Here are some of the issues they frequently address:
Cultural issues around mental health support. Mental health may be a stigmatized topic in your community/family, and you may be reluctant to start therapy. Or maybe you have tried therapy in the past, but haven’t had the best experiences due to feeling like your cultural background and values weren’t understood. Mallika works through a culturally sensitive lens to give you the support and understanding you need in order to honor all parts of yourself.
Depression and anxiety. If you are having trouble staying motivated and positive, Mallika can help you gain perspective on what’s bothering you and develop strategies for managing your feelings in a healthy manner.
Identity issues. Particularly if you are a person of color and/or identify as queer or trans, you may have a more complicated time than your peers in figuring out who you are and who you want to be, especially in a less than friendly political environment. Mallika can help you manage this complex set of stressors.
Trauma. Healing from trauma takes time and can be very challenging. Mallika can help you work through difficult experiences and move forward in your life.
ADHD and other neurodiversities. Perhaps you learn or communicate differently than most other people. Mallika can help you develop more confidence and strategies to support your unique way of being, so you can figure out the best way to live a balanced and productive life.
Non-traditional relationships. If you are in a queer, poly, asexual, and/or queerplatonic relationship and are tired of explaining or justifying yourself, you can skip all that with Mallika. They can help you get right to the core issues you want to resolve, without feeling stigmatized or self-conscious about your relationship choices.
Mallika’s approach to therapy is identity-affirming, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed. They believe that you are the expert on your own life, and will work collaboratively to empower you to become your best self and build a life you want to live.
